Scouting Celebrates its Worldwide Centenary
Scouting started on 1st August 1907, with an experimental camp run by Lord Robert Baden-Powell on Brownsea Island for 20 boys from a wide variety of social backgrounds. Today, there are over 28 million people involved with Scouting in 216 different countries. It involves girls and boys, men and women from every race, religion and culture. In 2007, Scouting celebrates its worldwide Centenary. To celebrate the Centenary, activities will be taking place around the world including the World Scout Jamboree, which will returning to the UK in 1997. To celebrate the Centenary everyone in the Group will be given a ‘100 years of Scouting’ badge which can be worn on your uniform until the end of 2007.
